Nearly 600 students made decisions to follow Jesus Christ during a UniteUS gathering at the University of South Alabama in Mobile on Tuesday, October 27, according to ChurchLeaders, which reported figures shared by the ministry. Organizers said 596 people responded to the Gospel, and 52 were baptized during the event, which drew nearly 3,500 attendees.

UniteUS is a college ministry movement that brings students together for worship, evangelism, and a public opportunity to respond to the Gospel. Its gatherings typically feature extended worship, prayer, and preaching, with an invitation for students to declare their faith in Christ and, for many, to be baptized on the spot.

Some of the most memorable moments at the Mobile gathering happened outside the main meeting. Students were baptized in the beds of pickup trucks, turning an ordinary parking lot scene into a public testimony of new faith. Video shared afterward showed students stepping into the water and answering, one by one, that they had asked Jesus Christ to be Lord of their lives and to forgive their sins.

Pastor Travis Johnson, lead pastor of Pathway Church, a multisite church with campuses across the Gulf Coast, shared footage of the baptisms on social media. In one clip, he baptized a young woman named Emily, who told him she had asked Christ to forgive her sins and believed He had heard her prayer.

UniteUS founder Tonya Prewett celebrated the night online, writing, “God moved at Unite South Alabama. Over 600 students made decisions for Jesus! What a God!” Best-selling author and Bible teacher Jennie Allen, founder of IF:Gathering, also spoke at the event and shared video from the gathering.

The South Alabama stop continues a pattern seen at other UniteUS outreaches this fall, where large crowds of college students have gathered for worship and hundreds have responded to the Gospel. The movement, which began with its first gathering at Auburn University in September 2023, has since visited campuses across the country, drawing students who organizers describe as hungry to hear the Word of God.

For churches watching these campus gatherings, the Mobile numbers carry a simple encouragement. The students came, they listened, and hundreds chose to follow Christ and be baptized. The work of evangelism on the college campus, long and often slow, is still bearing fruit in public, visible ways.
