Christian social commentator Samuel Sey, known to his many readers as @SlowToWrite, was arrested Wednesday afternoon and is being held at the Butler County Jail in Ohio on an immigration detainer, according to jail records reported by Protestia.

According to the report, the booking sheet lists the charge description as a “Hold for ICE.” An alert from the Butler County Jail confirmed that Sey is in custody on the immigration hold.

Sey is a Ghanaian-born writer who moved to Canada as a child and has lived in Ohio since early 2022. He formerly served as a community liaison with the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform, and his commentary has been featured on The Daily Wire, the Christian Post, and The Blaze. He is well known in Christian circles for his bold writing on faith, family, and moral issues.

It is not yet clear why Sey was stopped or what led to the detainer. Protestia reports that no further details have been released, and no information has been made public about whether the hold relates to his own immigration status or to another matter.

Protestia publisher David Morrill shared the news on X, speculating that the situation may be a misunderstanding. Morrill noted that Sey “has written extensively about the righteousness of borders and immigration enforcement,” adding: “It’s highly unlikely that Samuel Sey… has been knowingly violating immigration laws. My money’s on this being a misunderstanding.”

The report closed with a simple request that fellow believers are already echoing: keep this brother and his family in your prayers.
