NORFOLK, Va. — Two of the biggest names in gospel music took the stage Saturday night at Norfolk State University's 2026 Homecoming Gospel Explosion.

Four-time Grammy Award winner Karen Clark Sheard — celebrated around the world both as a solo artist and as a member of the legendary Clark Sisters — headlined the concert, along with multi-Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and choir director Tye Tribbett, known for his high-energy, genre-blending praise anthems.

The lineup also featured acclaimed worship leader Will Johnson, the dynamic sibling gospel group Fraser 5, and a special performance by the renowned Norfolk State University Choir.

The concert, part of NSU's 2026 Homecoming festivities, was held at Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall and drew students, alumni, and gospel music lovers from across the region.

Events like these are a reminder of gospel music's enduring power: when the people of God lift their voices together, hearts are encouraged, the lost are drawn, and the name of Jesus Christ is magnified.
